Helldivers 2 for the PS5 and PC is now out, and we've enlisted three IGN staff members to take on the disgusting bug like Terminids, and the Terminator-esque Automatons, in this explosive, intense and bloody 18 minutes of 4K 60FPS gameplay - all captured with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU.

Use the environment. You've got big guns, you've got Stratagems, you've got reinforcements from teammates, but you've also got the environment to utilize. As you roam the map, you might find items you can pick up and throw, such as explosive tanks.

Helldivers 2 lets you play as an elite soldier among the Helldivers, the greatest military force the galaxy has ever seen. Join the fight for freedom as you eliminate monsters who threaten the peace.

Though Helldivers 2 was unplayable on Steam Deck when it launched, an update soon released that made the game perform much, much better on Valve's PC gaming handheld. Now, you can achieve framerates in the mid-40s or so as long as you're using low-to-medium settings.

Look for secondary objectives, outposts, and bases. These aren't always obvious, but each map will have a set of additional activities you can complete. They can range from destroying bases to reloading weapons and disrupting signals.

So the jumping dive was already implemented in the previous game, but I have found that I’ve been dying more to using the dive than just actually keeping my distance from the enemies.

A primitive actualization of barbarity, the Berserker has CPUs in each chainsaw that are programmed to solve one problem: closing the space between saw and target as quickly as possible. Devastator

The marks a bit of a delay, as it was originally set to release at the end of this year. Pre-orders will launch on Sept. 22 for both the Standard Edition and the Super Citizen Edition.

Also, the game being in live-service means that you get rewards playing more as well as different missions to strive for and do. This was the missing piece in the first game, and I think they pulled it off quite well.

This means that if you were to buy the game on both PC and PS5, your levels and unlocks won't transfer between them — even if

As a multiplayer experience, I think Helldivers 2 hits all the right notes. The gameplay basics are fun and the open-ended environments give you a fair amount of flexibility in how to tackle each objective. It seems like quite a tactical game too, though the need for advanced strategies wasn't too pressing at the lower difficulties I had the time to unlock. It doesn't seem terrifically complicated, nor does it come packaged with the kind of comprehensive content package that modern players often expect, but I think those omissions are more than forgivable at its asking price. The special abilities the game provides, combined with friendly fire (which is enabled at all times) is a recipe for a lot of squad-based fun with friends. There are echoes of other PvE shooters here - namely of the extraction shooter variety, though Mass Effect 3's multiplayer also came to mind - but this game seems more oriented around having fun than creating a tightly crafted competitive experience.

The quality level is high, presenting without obvious aliasing, even on the PS5 in its performance mode. The clouds are also volumetric in nature, at least at lower levels of the atmosphere, and resolve Helldivers 2 Gameplay without distracting artifacting. Low-lying fog also appears to be part of the equation, with ground-level fog often giving planets a certain ethereal quality. Environmental density is impressive. There's a lot of scattered rocks, shrubs, and tufts of grass throughout the various planets. Given the size and scope of the game I have to imagine that procedural systems have been used extensively here, but the final results look quite conterraneo. Foliage in particular can be generously placed, with some especially verdant garden worlds. I did note animation issues with the foliage on at least one planet but on a more macro level, lighting and assets come together to make each world feel distinct, giving each environment some nice vistas.
